IN-0201 Side-Entry Wiring: When You Need It and Which End to Use

In most kitchens, the IN-0201 is wired from the back. The supply cable comes out of the wall behind the cabinet, and the fixture sits right over it, so the wiring stays hidden and nothing shows.

For some users, hardwiring the light from the back is not a viable option because of the location of their household supply wires. The INLIGHT IN-0201 series is built for exactly that, with knockout holes on both ends of the fixture so the supply wires can come in from the side.

If you are planning side entry, check one thing first: which version you have. The single-color and multi-color models don't handle it the same way.

When side entry makes sense

• The supply cable comes through the cabinet's end panel instead of the back wall.
• You are running cable along the underside of the cabinets from another fixture or a junction box.
• A back feed would put the fixture in the wrong spot on the counter.

If your cable comes out of the wall right behind the fixture, wire from the back as usual. You don't need the end knockouts.

Single-color models: either end works

On a single-color IN-0201 (fixed 3000K warm white or 5000K daylight), you can use the knockout on either end. Pick the side that lines up with your cable run so you aren't pulling extra wire across the cabinet.

Multi-color models: only the end opposite the switch

On the 3-CCT and 5-CCT selectable models, there is less room inside the switch end, not enough to arrange the wires safely. For side entry on a multi-color IN-0201, use only the knockout at the end opposite the switch. Plan your mounting position so that end faces the supply cable.

Quick checklist for side entry

• Confirm you actually need side entry. If the cable comes out behind the fixture, wire from the back.
• Check the label or your order: single-color (3000K or 5000K) or multi-color (3-CCT or 5-CCT).
• Single-color: use the end closest to the supply cable.
• Multi-color: face the end opposite the switch toward the supply cable.
• Punch out the knockout and fit a cable connector before you pull the wires in.
• Turn off power at the breaker before you start.
• Follow the included instructions and your local electrical code. Hardwired installation should be done by a qualified electrician.
